GM to reveal next-generation Corvette in July
14 April 2019, 09:56 | Casey Mitchell
Mid-engine Chevrolet Corvette confirmed for 2020, will debut July 18
At long last, General Motors is admitting that the Corvette will reach another generation and has confirmed that the car-yes, the real, bona fide 2020 ChevroletCorvette C8-will make its official debut July 18. Go ahead and circle July 18 on your calendar! GM released a set of photos of the auto - still wrapped in camouflage.
You can check out Chevrolet.com for the latest official information.
General Motors executives in New York City to announce a benefit auction involving the last C7 Chevrolet Corvette also used the occasion Thursday to confirm that the long-anticipated mid-engine C8 "Next Generation" of America's sports vehicle will be unveiled July 18. As far as we know there's no significance around that date. GM is keeping quiet about the technical details until the launch, which leaves us just one option - to speculate more. The engine will be modified to fit the rear-mid-engine layout and perhaps given a power boost to take it above 500 hp.
There's been plenty of speculation as to what this mid-engined C8 version will offer.
The price tag is expected to go between $60,000 and $70,000. The Stingray will then be joined by higher-performance variants, including a 5.5-litre flat-plane crankshaft V8 Z06, 5.5-litre twin-turbocharged ZR1 and flagship Zora model that will augment the potent bi-turbo mill with hybrid electrification and produce over 740kW of power. For a while, everyone thought it's going to be a 7-speed Tremec DCT. But as good as the C7 is and has been, it has been slightly overshadowed by the imminent and much-rumored mid-engined C8, which we first saw spy photos of-and thus got confirmation of-in 2015.
