Oculus accidentally ships out thousands of Oculus Touch controllers with creepy messages
14 April 2019, 10:25 | Casey Mitchell
Nate Mitchell, cofounder of Oculus and head of the VR project at Facebook announced today that there were some accidental "easter eggs" placed in Oculus controllers that are set to ship out with upcoming Rift S and Quest systems. Messages like: "Big Brother is Watching" and "This Space for Rent.' As if that wasn't bad enough, it seems that while none of the devices containing the hidden messages have landed in customers" hands yet, they will be as it's apparently too late to stop their shipment. One of the messages directs towards iFixit which is a known brand in deconstructing new gadgets while others are a reference to advertising in case of the message "This Space is for Rent" or a hint towards god in the message that reads "Big Brother is Watching", etc. Originally meant for internal prototype use only, Oculus accidentally inscribed these messages onto the controllers which have shipped in tens of thousands of products that will hit up for sales in a few days.
"While I appreciate Easter eggs, these were inappropriate and should have been removed", tweeted Mitchell. "The integrity and functionality of the hardware were not compromised, and we've fixed our process so this won't happen again".
Pistons in win-and-in scenario, but Griffin out
In Philadelphia, Jonathon Simmons had 20 points to lead the 76ers over Chicago in the regular-season finale for both teams. In San Antonio, LaMarcus Aldridge had 34 points and 16 rebounds and the Spurs beat Dallas in Dirk Nowitzki's final game.
These messages were intended only for prototypes, but a mistake meant they were included in regular production devices, he said. Supposedly, these won't appear in any consumer devices. The controllers haven't yet made it to customers, as they are for the new Oculus Quest and Rift S VR headsets.
The messages are emblazoned on the "flex" portion of the Touch controllers, Business Insiderreported. "We think it's important to be transparent with our community and take responsibility when there's an error", she added.
A Facebook spokesperson told the Verge that the easter eggs were hidden on the Touch controllers for the yet-to-be-released Oculus Rift S and Oculus Quest, not the original Oculus Touch controllers that shipped in 2016.
While most users of the Touch controller will never see the hidden messages, it's an awkward misstep for Facebook, which has faced sustained criticism on privacy issues for more than a decade.
Heartbeat bill passes and legal battle set
If a heartbeat is detected and the doctor still performs an abortion then he or she can be charged with a felony. Many anti-abortion activists in favor of these bills have expressed that the ultimate goal is to overturn Roe v.
