Arabsat 6-A launch successful
15 April 2019, 12:54 | Edward Lowe
Falcon Heavy lifted off yesterday from Cape Canaveral in Florida and successfully delivered its cargo into orbit
"Arabsat success during the past two months, the launch of HS4 satellite at 39 degrees East for Hellas Sat, Arabsat's subsidiary, last February and this success today, could not have been possible without the help of the young Arab engineers from Arabsat's headquarters and its two ground stations in Riyadh and Tunisia, from where these satellites are operated and controlled".
Just minutes into the launch, the giant rocket's central core landed safely on SpaceX's offshore barge in the Atlantic Ocean, dubbed 'Of Course I Still Love You, ' while the two side boosters landed back on pads at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station's Landing Zone 1 and 2. 'Three for three boosters today for the Falcon Heavy'. Up first is this afternoon's launch of the Saudi Arabian satellite called Arabsat-6A, and it's possible SpaceX could nail all three of its rocket landings this time around.
The Falcon Heavy rocket exerts 5.1 million pounds of thrust - that of more than a dozen jetliners, SpaceX said.
Built on Lockheed Martin's LM 2100 platform, Arabsat 6A provides advanced Ka-spot beam communications services and Ku and Ka-band coverages in addition to other frequency bands. Musk says SpaceX plans on reusing the fairings during the launch of its own Starlink satellite mission later this year.
The Falcon Heavy, developed by the private U.S. space flight company SpaceX, blasted off from the Kennedy Space Center in the U.S. State of Florida at 6:35 p.m.
Fans and tourists are expected to flock to the Florida Space Coast for the event, while some can catch the live broadcast on the SpaceX website. The Falcon Heavy's payload was the Arabsat-6A, a telecommunications satellite that will deliver television, radio, Internet, and mobile communications to the Middle East, Africa, and Europe.
