On April 11, after almost four months of the popular uprising, a military takeover ended al-Bashir's 30-year authoritarian rule.

The organisation that spearheaded the months of protests leading to Bashir's fall, the Sudanese Professionals Association, called on their supporters to boost the numbers at the complex.

When the military announced Bashir's ousting, they said he had been arrested and was being kept at a "safe place".

"We hope that everyone will head immediately to the areas of the sit-in to protect your revolution and your accomplishments", the SPA said.

Deputy leader of the council Mohammad Hamdan Daglo, widely known as Himeidti, also met with Washington's top envoy to Khartoum Steven Koutsis on Sunday.

The United States, Britain and Norway urged the military council and other parties to hold talks over the country's transition to civilian rule.

They demanded the dissolution of Bashir's National Congress Party and said they received affirmation from the TMC that the party will not participate in a transitional government being negotiated.

If their demands were not met, the group would press on with protests and would not join a future transitional government, Ahmed al-Rabie, an SPA member, told Reuters.

"We want to set up a civilian state based on freedom, justice and democracy", a council member, Lieutenant General Yasser al-Ata, told several political parties, urging them to agree on the figures to sit in civilian government.

A 10-member delegation representing the protesters delivered a list of demands during talks with the council late Saturday, according to a statement by the Alliance for Freedom and Change umbrella group.

Protest leaders have called for the feared intelligence agency, whose chief Salah Gosh resigned on Saturday, to be restructured and for NISS officials to face prosecution. Barely 24 hours later, the military council was forced to appoint its second leader in two days, with Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan replacing Ibn Auf.

The countries said that it is time for the transitional military council to engage in dialogue with all parties of civil society to begin the handing over of the country. "The most potent form of leverage would be to go after the assets laundered by Bashir and his allies through the worldwide financial system", Clooney wrote in a joint Washington Post column with rights activist John Prendergast.

Himeidti is also the head of Sudan's Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a paramilitary anti-insurgency force with its origins in the Janjaweed militias of the Darfur conflict.

An end to the state of emergency Bashir imposed on February 22.
