Republican Bill Weld announces primary campaign against Donald Trump

Bill Weld officially announces he’s challenging Trump for GOP nomination in 2020

The former MA governor and perennial political candidate announced Monday he's going to challenge Trump for the GOP nomination in 2020, becoming the first and likely the only Republican to do so.

The announcement video also touts Weld's record on helping to fight corruption, particularly Democrat corruption in MA, as well as his connection to President Ronald Reagan, who appointed him to be a "crime-fighting" USA attorney. It is time to return to the principles of Lincoln - equality, dignity, and opportunity for all. He said, in his words, "There is no greater cause on earth than to preserve what truly makes America great. I am ready to lead that fight", he said.

Trump enjoys a almost 90% approval rating among Republicans, according to Gallup.

Woman attacked with crossbow in attempted murder investigation: peel police
Detective Kettles said the woman spent several months in hospital and would be in a "recovery phase for the rest of her life". Police said the suspect then fled the area, and police arrived to find the woman with life-threatening injuries.

In addition to not being Donald Trump, Weld worked in the office of the Attorney General during the Reagan administration, served as Governor of MA from 1991 to 1997, and was Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson's running mate during the 2016 Presidential race (which, btw, they lost).

In a three-minute video announcing his candidacy released Monday, Weld highlighted some widely criticized comments by Trump, including Trump saying then-Sen. The Republican National Committee in January issued a nonbinding resolution to declare the party's undivided support for Trump.

But the challenge could have the potential for intraparty strife, which could weaken the incumbent or expose vulnerabilities that would later be exploited by a general election rival. Weld was on the ticket as a Libertarian vice presidential candidate in 2016. His campaign recently reported raising $30 million in the first quarter of this year, while Democrats are raising less money than in previous cycles. "The country deserves to have some fiscal constraint and conservatism".

Leafs' Kadri to have in-person hearing for Game 2 cross-check
Toronto's Nazem Kadri has been suspended for the remainder of the First Round for Cross-checking Boston's Jake DeBrusk. The NHL had the option to suspend him for more than five games. "We'll get that figured out and go from there".

No candidate that has gone up against an incumbent president has ever been successful at winning the nomination in the modern era, so Weld will face an uphill battle on his quest to unseat Trump.

Weld said he will not run as an Independent if he does not win the Republican nomination. He has supported legalization of medical marijuana since 1992.

Weld has not won a political race since being re-elected governor by a landslide in his heavily Democratic state in 1994.
