Trump Issues Second Veto Of His Presidency
17 April 2019, 01:33 | Glen Norman
President Donald Trump said the resolution was unnecessary
President Trumpdelivered the second veto of his administration Tuesday as he vetoed S.J. Res. 7, which would call for the end of American support for Saudi-led military campaign in Yemen. The fighting in the Arab world's poorest country also has left millions suffering from food and medical care shortages and has pushed the country to the brink of starvation. The Trump administration also argued that USA activities in support of Saudi-led forces did not constitute "hostilities" and claimed the resolution could "establish bad precedent for future legislation". Trump argued that United States support for the bloody war between the Saudi-backed Yemeni government and Iran-aligned Huthi rebels was necessary for a variety of reasons, "first and foremost" to "protect the safety of the more than 80,000 Americans who reside in certain coalition countries".
Mr. Kaine also accused Trump of ignoring other Saudi human-rights violations such as the killing of columnist Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi consulate in Turkey and the jailing of feminist activists.
The House passed the measure earlier this month by a vote of 247-175, and the Senate cleared a vote by 54-46 in March.
Democratic Rep. Eliot Engel of NY, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, voted to end U.S. military assistance to the war, saying the humanitarian crisis in Yemen triggered "demands moral leadership".

This has been capped at $400 by Qualcomm, but still represents a much higher value than the $20 cost of a Snapdragon modem chip. Apple announced the deal in a press release on Tuesday shortly after the fight went to court in San Diego.
Mr. Trump vetoed the measure Tuesday.
"In addition, the conflict in Yemen represents a "cheap" and affordable way for Iran to cause trouble for the United States and for our ally, Saudi Arabia", Mr. Trump said.
The conflict has killed tens of thousands of people and spawned what the United Nations calls the world's most dire humanitarian crisis, with the country on the brink of starvation. Congress lacks the votes to override him.
Pelosi added: "This conflict must end, now". The Trump administration had already pledged to end the refueling runs. McCaul said it was an abuse of the War Powers Resolution and predicted it could disrupt US security cooperation agreements with more than 100 countries.

The U.S. has provided intelligence and logistical support to the Saudis since 2015.
David Miliband, President of the International Rescue Committee, a humanitarian aid group, said: "This veto by President Trump is morally wrong and strategically wrongheaded".
The president has grown frustrated with Congress for some of its votes that seemed created to admonish him, such as the decision to remove sanctions on Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska - who has ties to former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort - and the pushback against Trump's declaration of a national emergency to secure funding for his long-promised U.S. -Mexico border wall.
Trump issued his first veto last month on legislation related to immigration.
