President Trump stops to speak to members of the media as he walks to Marine One to depart from the South Lawn at the White House in March.
"Fox Newsreported on Monday that Attorney General Bill Barr had assigned John Durham, the USA attorney in CT, to conduct the inquiry into alleged misconduct and alleged improper government surveillance on the Trump campaign during the 2016 presidential election, as well as whether Democrats were the ones who improperly colluded with foreign actors", reports Fox News.
"I didn't know it, but I think it's a great thing that he did it", he said.
Barr picked Durham in recent weeks to work on the review, which is created to ensure that the US government's "intelligence collection activities" related to the Trump campaign were "lawful and appropriate", a person familiar with the decision said. "I think it's great".
"I am so proud of our attorney general that he is looking into it", Trump said.
FBI Director Chris Wray said last week that he does not consider court-approved FBI surveillance to be "spying" and said he has no evidence the FBI illegally monitored Trump's campaign.

The president also commented on the recent congressional subpoena of his son Donald Trump Jr., saying his son already offered about 20-hours of testimony in the Mueller probe.
Durham's inquiry, which will focus on whether the government's methods to collect intelligence relating to the Trump campaign were lawful and appropriate, is separate from an investigation by the Justice Department's inspector general.
"Most of the Federal Bureau of Investigation agents we know do great work for our country, but there were some who were politically motivated and carrying out their job not in what was best for the country, but in what was best to pursue their own political agenda and there is absolutely no place for that within the Federal Bureau of Investigation", he continued.
Durham, who was unanimously confirmed by the Senate as USA attorney in 2018, has a storied history of investigating issues of corruption and national security under both Democratic and Republican administrations. Durham has reportedly been on the case for months now.
