Teen Killed, Her Baby Cut From Womb; Husband Asks, ‘Why Did These Bad People Do This?’

Chicago Police missing person flier for Marlen Ochoa-Uriostegui who had gone to a Chicago home in response to a Facebook offer of free baby clothes was strangled and her baby cut from her womb police and family members said

A Chicago woman who sold baby clothes to a pregnant woman and lured her back to her house with an offer of more clothing has been charged with murder after allegedly strangling the woman with a cord and cutting the infant from her womb, police said Thursday.

A body found behind a home on Chicago's Southwest Side has been identified as that of a 19-year-old pregnant woman who disappeared last month. She died of ligature strangulation, which typically involves the use of a cord or rope, the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office said, and her death was ruled a homicide.

The nine months pregnant teen was lured to the home of a stranger with the promise of free baby supplies and was murdered, after which her baby was cut out of her womb, according to local media reports citing authorities and family members.

The newborn was in grave condition and not expected to survive, and three people were taken into custody, with charges including murder expected to be filed Thursday afternoon, police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said.

Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Merritt said a woman called 911 reporting that her newborn baby was in distress.

In Ochoa-Lopez's case, police and family members say she was killed after responding to a Facebook offer of free baby clothes.

According to the Chicago Sun Times, the older woman - who has not been named - called emergency services saying she had given birth to the baby in the home.

Police said that the coaxial cable that was used to strangle Ochoa-Uriostegui was found next to her body in a garbage can in Figueroa's backyard.

The baby was transported to Christ Hospital, Chicago fire officials confirmed.

Cortes said the community has no other recourse but to pray and hope for Ochoa-Uriostegui's family. "We assume they would raise the child as their own". That almost full-term baby survived, but the mother, Debra Evans, and two of her other children were killed.

"She was giving clothes away, supposedly under the pretense that her daughters had been given clothes and they had all these extra boy clothes", she said. "I don't know what caused them to, knowing she had a family, a 3-year-old son", said Yovani Lopez, Ochoa's husband of four years. They are demanding justice for Marlen and her loved ones.

Ochoa-Uriostegui's son, named Yadiel Yovany Lopez by his father and Ochoa-Uriostegui's husband, Giovanni Lopez, is now in hospital on life support. Later, an anonymous tip lead the police to check the DNA of the baby.

Figueroa's boyfriend, Piotr Bobak, has been charged with concealing the death of a person and one felony count of concealing a homicidal death.
