Bergman to fellow veterans: VA community care is here

08 June 2019, 06:34 | Silvia Roy

Starting today, vets get access to urgent care, expanded access to medical care under new law

New VA rules allow more veterans to see private doctors, urgent care

Ultimately, the new community care program should improve access to health care for veterans, ensuring they have the ability to get the care they need when they need it and where it is most appropriate.

"With the implementation of the Mission Act, there are some changes that have come to the VA - including how the provider enters a consult for a veteran", Dr. Maureen McCarthy said.

"I think it's safe to assume that over the next several years you will see more veterans getting their health care in the community", said Dan Caldwell, senior adviser to Concerned Veterans for America, an advocacy group.

Local veterans say that this law is good news for the veteran community. This is day one of a reformed VA system that will give Veterans more control and ownership of their healthcare choices.

Services begin for the 12 victims of Virginia Beach shooting
The 12 people killed in Friday's shooting at a Virginia Beach government building were all these things, and so much more. Instead, Cox said Republicans intend to propose stiffer penalties for criminals who use firearms to carry out a crime.

The new Veterans Community Care program, mandated by the VA Mission Act enacted a year ago, starts Thursday.

"This is for veterans that may live too far, that may take too long, that need care closer to their home or a service that we might not be able to provide quickly or provide at all at certain VA's", said Tomah VA Medical Center Director Victoria Brahm.

MISSION is an acronym for maintaining internal systems and strengthening integrated outside networks.

The new program consolidates all the previous efforts, including Veterans Choice, into a single program. For specialty care, the VA will pay for private doctors if vets must wait for more than 28 days or drive more than an hour to see a VA doctor.

John Cena Officially Joins ‘Fast & Furious 9’
So, sorry to disappoint you, person who expected John Cena to play a cowardly weakling in the next Fast & Furious movie. Deadline reports that John Cena has been confirmed for the upcoming Fast & The Furious 9 film.

Under the MISSION Act's Veterans Community Care Program, veterans can expect a variety of improvements.

Lebanon VAMC is one of 170 medical centers in the nation with the sole goal of providing world-class medical care to America's Veterans.

A Veteran needs a service not available at any VA medical facility. That would encourage more providers to participate in the VA's community care networks.

Among other criteria, veterans are eligible for outside care if the Veterans Health Administration does not offer care or services needed by the veteran; if it's not able to provide services to the veteran in a way that meets the VA's quality or timeliness standards; or if the veteran and referring clinician agree that receiving care outside the VA would be in the veteran's best medical interest.

USA backpedals on F-35 training for Turkish pilots
The Pentagon believes that it can minimise the effects on the broader programme if Turkey abides by the United States timeline. But if Turkey were removed from the F-35 programme, the ramifications would be felt far beyond the Turkish air force.

Brahm says the staff at the Tomah VA have been training for months to make the transition as smooth as possible.
