Salesforce acquires Tableau Software in $15.7 billion deal

Salesforce has announced that it will purchase the big data firm Tableau Software for $15.3bn in its biggest acquisition ever as the company aims to offer improved data insights to its customers.

Tableau is a leading analytics platform that will help Salesforce augment its current product offerings, which include tools to help companies with sales, marketing and customer service. The company's chairman, Marc Benioff mentioned in a statement that the combination of the world's top CRM provider and the top analytics platform should result in a collaboration that would essentially be a match made in heaven.

Tableau has more than 86,000 customers, including tech heavyweights such as Verizon Communications Inc and Netflix Inc.

The San Francisco-based company said the deal is likely to add up to $400m in its 2020 revenue, but would decrease adjusted profit by about 37 cents to 39 cents per share. In its last fiscal year ending January 31, Salesforce earned $1.43 per share on $13.28 billion in revenue.

Square Enix could very easily have released the same game with modern graphics and music, and the fans would be satisfied. Gameplay was not revealed in detail at the presentation, but the game will feature online co-op with up to four players.

The companies said Tableau will operate as an independent subsidiary and stay headquartered in Seattle.

Salesforce share price dropped after announcing its acquisition of data analytics firm Tableau.

Tableau's software is used to create interactive, visual dashboards and graphics used by businesses, universities and governments to analyze data ranging from corporate finances to baseball statistics.

Pund-IT principal, Charles King, also saw momentum for analytics and visualisation shifting into overdrive. he noted the pricetag paid by Salesforce for Tableau was more than 10x revenues in the last four quarters.

While Wall Street reacted unkindly, sending Salesforce stock down more than $8 dollars per share from its Friday close of $161.22, partners are optimistic Tableau will deliver them a competitive advantage in an enterprise market clamoring for the ability to draw quick insights from increasingly large data sources.
